Kitchens are filled with an assortment of objects requiring a diverse set of packing techniques. Beyond The Fork In The Road’s employees are trained in the proper way to pack your fragile china, glassware and dishes so they may arrive safely to your new home.

Drinking glasses and other fragile glassware are placed in foam sleeves for protection before placing them in special segmented moving boxes designed especially for glass. We individually wrap each piece and then unwrap it to place it within your new kitchen cabinets exactly how you'd like it, right side up or upside down.

Our bins are lined with packing paper or bubble wrap on the bottom of the bin for extra cushioning.

Bowls and plates are stacked with layers of paper between them and paper wrapped around the group to keep them secure, before packing them on their edge in a bin. Delicate China dishes are placed in foam sleeves and then wrapped in packing paper before being placed on their edge in the bin. We do not stack these items flat, as that can cause breakage when the moving truck hits a pothole!

Fragile items, like a decorative pitcher or vase, have their handles or neck wrapped with packing paper for added protection. Then they are wrapped in bubble wrap and then again with packing paper before being placed in a bin that has packing paper surrounding the fragile item.

We’ll pack everything from your dishware, to your pantry, to your junk drawer! If necessary, open food containers are sealed with tape or plastic wrap before moving. Knives are secured in packing paper and labeled as ‘sharp” for the move. Drawer organizers, utensil canisters and jars with lids are wrapped in plastic wrap to secure contents or keep lids with their bases.

We recommend you sort through your dry and canned goods and refrigerator to remove expired items prior to the move. Prior to packing day it is also wise to organize and downsize all of your plasticware, leftover containers, and dishware. Reunite all of your lids and containers and decide what you will want to take to your new home. You may find that your new kitchen has cabinets that aren’t as deep so sorting before the move will allow you to fit in all of the items that you regularly use. Newer kitchens sometimes offer deeper drawers, so stacking items like pans and bowls may be an option to fit more in, but then getting to what you need may be a hassle. If stacking pots and pans has bothered you in your old kitchen, consider how downsizing or storing things in a new way can bring you joy in your new kitchen. See what you can pare down in the way of plastic novelty cups, extra glassware, plastic containers, holiday dishes, tins, serving plates, etc. Consider the type of entertaining you will do or not do in the future at your new home and adjust what you will need in your kitchen.

Sort through your hot pads, trivets, dish towels, and placemats and toss those that have stains, burn marks, or holes. You are moving to a new home and will want to use newer and color-coordinated linens to show off your new kitchen to your friends and family.

While downsizing your kitchen, be sure to consider your gadgets and appliances. What do you have that you haven’t used lately. Have you stopped canning or freezing foods? Is there a bread maker or food dehydrator, blender or food processor that you no longer use? Many of us purchase gadgets to make cooking easier, but then seldom use them as we grab our old standards. Simplifying your kitchen before Beyond The Fork In The Road arrives on packing day will speed up your moving process and eliminate the stress of last minute decisions.

On moving day, Beyond The Fork In The Road will pack up the contents of your refrigerator and freezer. Food will be placed in coolers and then moved to your new home for immediate unpacking. Later when your new home has everything in place, you can sit back and relax with your chilled wine or ice cream!
