When you are preparing for a move, you may have a lot of questions on what you need to pack versus what Beyond The Fork In The Road’s employees will pack. Today we will discuss clothing so you have a better understanding on how our skilled professionals will handle your clothing and accessories.

Clothing may remain in dresser drawers if the furniture is light enough for the moving company. We will cover your clothing in packing paper to secure it for the move. If the dresser is too heavy, we’ll remove some of the clothing to lighten the load.  Removed clothing will be placed in sterilized labeled bins. We will cover the clothes with packing paper labeled with which dresser drawer it came from, so we can unpack the items and place them back into your dressers in the new home. Smaller items in dresser drawers like keepsakes, odds and ends, and paperwork may be removed and placed securely in packing bins, so as to not jamb drawers or come loose in the move. These items will also be labeled and returned to the dressers or night stands during the unpacking process.

Some clients are uncomfortable having others see or handle their undergarments and other personal items. You are free to pack these in a box yourself or you may wish to simply place them in a garment bag within your dresser drawers to unpack later.

Clothing hung in a closet will be packed into wardrobe moving boxes so the clothes may remain on their hangers and be rehung in the new home with fewer wrinkles. Men’s ties will be taken from their hanging positions and gently wrapped in packing paper and placed in a packing bin.

Shoes and belts are packed in packing bins. If the shoes are in their original boxes, they may be packed in cardboard boxes. Purses are packed in packing bins and large bags/luggage may be packed in wardrobe boxes.

When it comes to jewelry, some clients wish to pack and move their own jewelry, as they would their prescriptions. If jewelry is in an open tray within or on top of a dresser, we will seal it with plastic wrap before securing it in a packing bin, so no jewelry comes loose in the bin. Necklaces that are hanging on hooks in the old home may be taped with painter’s tape to packing paper and wrapped to avoid tangling as they move to the new home. When moving a jewelry cupboard or chest, the hanging necklaces are taped to the interior to avoid tangling and drawer contents may be secured with packing paper. The entire jewelry cupboard is then wrapped with plastic wrap to keep drawers and doors closed during the move.

Whatever our team packs for you on packing day, they will unpack for you on the move-in day. Since they know how items were situated or stored in your old home, they will be able to replicate it for you in your new home. For your peace of mind all staff are insured and bonded. There’s no need to stress yourself over packing or unpacking items by yourself, when our skilled professionals can provide you with a smooth transition into your new home.
